SRLF, French Society of Critical Care Medicine, is a learned society founded in 1971
It now counts more than 2,000 members and conducts various activities that revolve around two main directions:
- Continuing medical education and postgraduate education,
- Promoting clinical research and evaluation of critical care activity in the hospital.
Through these two axes, SRLF, and with it, the whole world of intensive care, has one fundamental objective: to give critical care medicine its rightful place in the healthcare system.
To effectively work, SRLF is governed by a board of 14 members (12 physicians and 2 RN), with the help of 10 working committees (Scientific Committe, Guidelines and Evaluation Committee, Ethics Committee , INSERM collaboration Committee, Reanimation journal Editorial Board, Emergency Medicine Committee, Epidemiology and Clinical Research, Young Intensivist Committee, Editorial Committee and Nursing Congress).
For continuing medical education, SRLF organizes conferences:
Its International Congress, each year in January in Paris. This conference welcomes more than 3500 participants from all backgrounds; 26 countries are represented. During this Congress, nearly 450 scientific papers are presented. High level conferences with international speakers, workshops, pro/con debate, critical care masterclass are also presented.
The Paris International Conference on critical care, each year in June. It is a two-day meeting covering all aspects of a specific area of critical care, with the most wellknown international speakers.
Because of a strong tradition of clinical research in intensive care, SRLF strives to also focus its action on clinical research:
Thus, the Scientific Committee is responsible for the selection of scientific papers presented at the internationational congress. Over 50% of the abstracts are published within two years in national or international journals.
SRLF awards Prizes and Grants for a total amount of nearly 200,000 euro. The jury is annually appointed by the Board and the Scientific Committee.
SRLF publishes two peer-reviewed journals, newsletters, books and handbooks:
Reanimation (resuscitation in french) published every two months by Springer which is a continuing medical education journal exclusively in french.
Annals of Intensive Care, newly published by Springer open, which is an online, fully open access, peer-reviewed journal aimed at publishing high-quality review articles and original research papers on intensive care medicine. This journal is exclusively published in English.
Reanimation Europe: the SRLF book collection. Some volume from this collection have been translated into English, German or Spanish.
